HydGene Renewables joined the South Australian Sustainable Aviation (SASA) forum in Adelaide on 27th November, where our CEO, Dr. Louise Brown, was invited to discuss the critical role of low-carbon hydrogen in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production. Backed by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, this discussion was timely, coinciding with recent Australian legislative advancements that support low-carbon hydrogen production.
Louise shared the innovative approach of converting biomass waste into carbon-negative hydrogen, highlighting that, "All gallons are not created equal – the impact of H2 on final carbon footprint is profound." HydGene’s technology for low-carbon hydrogen production from bio-waste not only supports the broader chemical manufacturing sector but is also crucial for producing SAF. Such innovations are key to meeting global mandates for cleaner aviation fuels and reducing the carbon footprint of the aviation industry.
In addition, Dr. Brown was privileged to also join a panel of industry and government leaders, including:
Dr. Kimberly Camrass, Sustainability Lead for Boeing in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific
Frosti Lau, Regional General Manager for Cathay Pacific
Stella Biggs from the South Australian Government
Patty Therrios, Head of Strategy and Sustainability from Adelaide Airport
The panel discussions emphasised the ‘intertwined’ futures of green hydrogen and SAF, and highlighted the essential role of carbon intensity in evaluating SAF's sustainability and scalability.
This event provided a vital platform to discuss the technical and collaborative aspects needed to jump-start effective SAF supply chains. As HydGene continues to advance green hydrogen technologies, we are eager to further these discussions and initiatives, leveraging regional feedstock opportunities to propel the aviation and broader energy sectors towards a sustainable future.
