HydGene Technology Showcased at Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit 2024

HydGene had the exciting opportunity to be one of the six Australian startups selected to participate in the Australian Hydrogen Tech Showcase, sponsored by the Australian Hydrogen Council, at the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition held in Brisbane across 12-13th September.

HydGene’s Commercial Lead, Sona Jain, and Board Chair, Dr Natalie Curach, shared insights into how our biocatalyst technology has the potential to revolutionise waste biomass conversion into low-cost green hydrogen. Over the two days, HydGene connected with industry leaders, discussed collaboration opportunities, and demonstrated how its solutions can help meet the growing demand for sustainable hydrogen production.

The summit brought together over 3,000 attendees from 30 countries, featuring a mix of government representatives, energy leaders, and tech innovators. The event's keynotes addressed the major challenges and opportunities for hydrogen in decarbonising industries like transport, steelmaking, and chemical manufacturing.

These are our key learnings:

  • Despite recent project delays and announcements of project cancellations by big oil and gas, hydrogen remains essential for decarbonising industries where electrification is not feasible, such as steel, chemicals, and transportation.

  • Collaboration between government, private industry, and startups is essential to scale hydrogen production and meet global net-zero goals.

  • There remains a strong focus on overcoming the "hydrogen deadlock," where producers and off-takers need aligned incentives to drive project momentum.

We are grateful for the Australian Hydrogen Council’s support in showcasing our technology to a global audience for the second year in a row. We look forward to further strengthening collaborations among hydrogen innovators across the region, driving forward sustainable solutions and shaping the future of green hydrogen.
